Riding powder is a useless pursuit—yet people across the globe devote their lives to it. The Meaningless Pursuit of Snow follows five such characters, all united by a backcountry culture so deep it spans languages and generations.
We're stoked to bring our community The Meaningless Pursuit of Snow and work with Coalition Snow, Protect Our Winters and the Reno Public Market!Â
Â
This event is FREE but please RSVP above. The first 25 people who RSVP will receive a $5 beverage/food coupon to use at any of the vendors at the Reno Public Market.Â
Melissa Gill and her partner Joe Lohr united around a shared love of the mountains. Then, while touring in Wyoming’s Teton Range, Joe lost an edge and slid to his death in front of Melissa’s eyes. Her story is one of recovery and finding joy in the backcountry after it’s taken everything away.
Aurélien Routens and his partner Agathe Margheriti purchased a 400-year-old off-grid village above the town of La Grave, France, using salvaged materials to restore the buildings and selling eggs from their 200 chickens to pay the bills—all while riding some of Europe’s most dramatic mountains.
The impacts of climate change on the places we love—our communities, trails, mountains and waterways— are greater than ever. Changing the trajectory of climate change will take smarts. It will take guts. And it will take passion. POW is laser-focused on forming relationships with key decision-makers across the country to ensure our priorities are on their agenda We know that the solutions to address climate change largely exist, and our campaign work focuses on finding the political will to put these opportunities into action.
From day one, POW’s goal has been to make civic engagement and climate advocacy an integral part of the lifestyle of any outdoor enthusiast. In the future we envision, being a member of the Outdoor State automatically means you’re an advocate for the places and lifestyles you live and love, and therefore, showing up to vote isn’t optional. This is the cultural shift we seek to make.
